The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) confirmed that Taylor had received notice of a positive drug test from December 14 and was subsequently suspended from the remainder of the tournament. Despite his initial victory over Oskar Lukasiak, Taylor’s suspension led to the withholding of his prize money and granted his second-round opponent, Jonny Clayton, a direct passage to the next round after Christmas.
In his social media post, Taylor expressed regret for his actions, just a year after failing a drug test before the 2025 Ally Pally tournament. He admitted to deceiving himself and others following his win against Lukasiak and acknowledged undergoing the required program after his previous suspension, which was reduced from a potential two-year ban to three months.
Taylor revealed the traumatic events he faced during his teenage years, attributing his struggles to the impactful experiences he encountered, including the loss of his nan, his brother’s health scare, and the death of a close friend. He recognized the disappointment he caused, especially to his two daughters and fans, and highlighted the emotional challenges he faced around the anniversary of his daughter’s death, leading him to turn to substances for relief.
The darts player announced his intention to seek assistance after the holiday season, acknowledging the importance of reaching out for support. He expressed remorse for not seeking help earlier and apologized for missing his uncle’s funeral due to his commitment to the Players Championship. Taylor concluded by thanking his supporters and vowed to return stronger in the future.
