A deadly missile strike by Russia claimed the lives of 10 individuals on Tuesday in a village situated in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, as reported by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, highlighting the devastation caused in Pechenihy, which houses a post office and stores in a residential area. Images shared by Zelenskyy depicted the aftermath of the assault, showing a destroyed building, burning cars, and rescue workers aiding the injured.
The attack resulted in 17 additional injuries, according to Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the surrounding region. The assault damaged numerous private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and multiple vehicles. Reports from Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office suggested that Russia utilized two small Banderol cruise missiles in the strike, targeting the central area of the village where key establishments are located.
In response, Ukraine launched a significant drone offensive, deploying 620 drones toward Moscow and its environs on Tuesday morning. Russian forces intercepted 180 of the drones over Moscow, with Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirming the downing of the aerial vehicles. The drones reportedly struck various facilities near Moscow, including a warehouse of the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, leading to minor damages and injuries.
Furthermore, regions under Russian control, such as Crimea, experienced intense drone attacks from Ukraine. Krymenergo, the primary power supplier in the Crimean peninsula, disclosed that southern districts faced power outages due to the drone assaults. The power supply situation remained challenging in several parts of the region, impacting settlements and infrastructure.
In a separate development, Russia issued a warning to Britain regarding its alleged supply of drones to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territories. The Russian embassy in London cautioned of consequences for Britain’s involvement in the conflict and support for Ukraine. Britain’s Defence Ministry refrained from confirming the use of British drones, emphasizing its commitment to aiding Ukraine in self-defense efforts against Russia’s incursion.
As part of a funding package, Britain pledged to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026. The ongoing tensions underscore the escalating conflict dynamics between Ukraine and Russia, with both nations engaging in retaliatory measures amid the intensifying hostilities.
