EDF has reintroduced its Sunday Saver challenge for February, offering customers free electricity on Sundays if they shift their electricity usage away from peak hours on weekdays, specifically between 4pm to 7pm. By participating, customers can earn between four to 16 hours of free electricity on the subsequent Sundays during the challenge period, which includes February 15 and 22, and March 1 and 8. Customers with smart meters can sign up for this offer until Sunday, February 1.
According to EDF, more than 260,000 households have already benefited from the Sunday Saver challenge, accumulating over 17 million free hours of electricity, resulting in £5.2 million in bill credits. Additionally, during Christmas, over 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity, with EDF giving away a total of 910,536 free hours of electricity to households.
One satisfied participant, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has earned over 680 free hours by following the challenge. Shields expressed gratitude for the cost-saving opportunity, mentioning how the challenge has brought her family closer by engaging in activities together during peak hours.
Jon Perks, Sales & Marketing Director at EDF, emphasized the benefits of the Sunday Saver challenge during the winter season, providing customers with a practical way to reduce costs and track their energy usage through the Energy Hub. He highlighted the environmental impact of reducing electricity consumption and supporting a sustainable electricity grid.
Customers can track their Sunday Saver progress on the Energy Hub via MyAccount, gaining insights into their household’s energy consumption patterns. EDF has also introduced a £50 credit offer for new and existing customers signing up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs, which provide five hours of cheaper electricity every night for both homes and cars.
