Family Demands Answers in Hospital Negligence Case

Date:

A father’s remains have been stored in a refrigerated unit for over a year at a hospital, as his family asserts that it holds crucial proof of medical negligence. Bill Trotter passed away at 73 in July of 2024 following treatment at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. His relatives have expressed serious reservations about his care, alleging multiple misdiagnoses. His death was attributed to a diabetic coma, with the family questioning the necessity of a proposed leg amputation.

Concerns were also raised regarding delays in addressing his bladder issue, resulting in significant urine retention. Moreover, discrepancies in post-mortem documentation, including a false claim of a prior severe abscess leading to sepsis, have been acknowledged by NHS officials. The NHS trust extended condolences and confirmed a thorough investigation into the family’s complaints.

The case was brought up in the House of Commons by Labour MP Julie Minns, while the Care Quality Commission initiated further inquiries. The family, represented by Mike and Kelly, seeks accountability for the alleged mistreatment and insists on transparency regarding their father’s medical records.

Despite initial discrepancies in reporting, corrected blood sugar levels in Bill’s records were finally updated after over a year. The family has met with CQC officials to push for a comprehensive investigation into the matter. They demanded the transfer of Bill’s body to a different facility for preservation as potential evidence.

The family’s consistent efforts to uncover the truth about Bill’s care and subsequent death have also garnered support from NHS whistleblower Paul Calvert. MP Ms. Minns highlighted the family’s struggles to obtain accountability during a parliamentary session.

Both the CQC and the NCIC NHS Trust are actively reviewing the case to determine any necessary regulatory actions. The Trust expressed sympathy for the family’s distress and emphasized their commitment to addressing concerns raised by patients and families.

As the investigation continues, the family urges for a full inquest into their father’s case and remains dedicated to seeking justice for Bill’s memory. They have been advised on further steps to pursue if dissatisfied with the investigation’s outcome. The public accounts committee may potentially investigate the matter, to which the Trust has pledged full cooperation.
