Gardai rushed to the site of a fatal accident near the location where one of the five young individuals who perished in a tragic collision in Co Louth last week is being laid to rest.
An elderly man, aged in his 80s, collided with a lorry close to The Church of Our Lady, where Dylan Commins’ funeral is scheduled for today. Sadly, the man was declared deceased at the scene. The primary road for the funeral procession has been shut down as emergency responders continue their work at the scene.
In an official statement, gardai confirmed their presence at a road traffic incident on the Main Street of Ardee, Co Louth, on the morning of Friday, November 21, 2025. The Main Street remains closed while emergency services are still actively engaged at the location.
This tragedy occurred shortly after a devastating crash outside Dundalk, Co Louth, where five victims lost their lives, including Alan McCluskey, Chloe McGee, Dylan Commins, Shay Duffy, and Chloe Hipson. The group was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Dundalk the previous Saturday night.
Loved ones shared heartfelt tributes before vigils were held last week. Alan McCluskey, aged 23, was fondly remembered as a “lovely young man,” and mourners gathered in Drumconrath for his funeral. Dylan, 23, known for his genuine nature, worked as a mechanic. Chloe, 21, who had moved from Scotland to study Quantity Surveying at DkIT, was described as unique and funny by a close friend.
Shay Duffy, also remembered for his warmth and humor, was honored in tributes as “a lovely lad” who always brought smiles with his funny remarks.
