“Fatal Incident Halts Manchester-Stalybridge Trains”

There was a significant presence of emergency services at Ashton-under-Lyne station this evening, leading to the suspension of all train services between Manchester and Stalybridge. Police, paramedics, and fire crews responded to reports of a casualty on the tracks, sadly resulting in a fatality. British Transport Police confirmed the death, stating that the incident is not suspicious, and preparations are underway for the coroner.

A video from Manchester Evening News showcased emergency services at the scene with a cordon in place on Turner Lane under the railway bridge. National Rail provided updates on disrupted services, affecting routes between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge, as well as impacting Northern and TransPennine Express services to various destinations.

The disruption is expected to continue until at least 8 pm, with National Rail reporting closures of all lines between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge, leading to potential train cancellations, delays of up to 30 minutes, or schedule revisions.
