A toddler fell down a lift shaft in Voronezh, Russia, after leaning on a door that gave way in front of his parents. The boy’s father quickly jumped in to rescue him, fearing the elevator might descend from above and crush them. The incident occurred on the ground floor of their apartment building. Fortunately, the child avoided metal spikes at the shaft’s base during the fall.
The mother used a torch to help the father locate and retrieve the boy, with heroic neighbors assisting by holding the lift on the third floor to prevent further descent. The father, named Alexey, managed to pull the child back through the damaged door and escape. Despite the scare, the toddler only sustained minor bruises on his head and back.
Alexey expressed gratitude that his son was safe, attributing it to luck and the quick actions of neighbors. The child, named Matvey, has since returned home and is reported to have calmed down after the incident. Following the incident, the Russian Investigative Committee initiated a criminal investigation.
Addressing the lift’s state, Alexey criticized the building’s new lifts, stating they had operational issues and were unreliable. He emphasized that the lifts should not exhibit such alarming behavior.
