Father’s Day Tragedy: Body of Ferry Fall Victim Found

Date:

The body of a father who fell from a ferry on Father’s Day has been recovered after more than four months. Mark Federspiel, 64, went overboard on Sunday, June 15, while traveling from Gourock to Dunoon in Scotland with his wife, Annette, and daughter, Lara. Annette raised the alarm when Mark did not return from the bathroom.

A massive search operation, involving HM Coastguard, RNLI lifeboats, Police Scotland, and other units, was launched to find Mark, but initially, no trace of him was found. Sadly, Mark’s body was discovered on Kilcreggan Beach on October 12, ending the family’s anxious wait.

Authorities have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mark’s death. Mark, known as “Mark the Shark” during his time as a US Navy diver, had been battling a rare form of leukemia, which sometimes affected his balance.

Annette expressed her grief and uncertainty during the search efforts, emphasizing the pain of losing her husband. Mark and Annette had recently returned to Dunoon from the US and were planning to spend their retirement in Scotland.

Paying tribute to her late husband on Facebook, Annette described Mark as a gentleman and a hero, expressing deep love and loss. She vowed to continue searching for him, reflecting the enduring impact of his absence on her life.
