The Federal Court has mandated the disclosure of previously hidden sections from a September 1986 report commissioned for a significant federal investigation into war crimes. Federal Court Justice Simon Fothergill, in a recent ruling, instructed the government to reveal redacted segments of the report concerning the relocation of suspected Nazi war criminals in Canada post-World War II. B’nai Brith Canada has persistently advocated for the publication of more content from the study conducted by researcher Alti Rodal.
In February 2024, Library and Archives Canada unveiled additional segments of the report following an access to information request from B’nai Brith. However, certain details, such as discussions on the involvement of American intelligence agencies in aiding the integration of Nazi collaborators in Canada, were still withheld by Library and Archives.
Judge Fothergill dismissed the government’s claim that releasing specific additional information could negatively impact Canada’s diplomatic ties.
