“Firefighters Assaulted with Fireworks While Battling Apartment Blaze”

Date:

Firefighters responding to a fire in an apartment within a tall building in Huyton were assaulted with fireworks, according to the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS). The fire was reported on Primrose Drive at 6:57 pm, and the crews reached the location at 7:04 pm, deploying five fire engines and an aerial appliance to combat the flames.

Upon gaining access to the third-floor flat, firefighters swiftly extinguished the fire utilizing a main jet and a hose reel jet, as per MFRS. Regrettably, during the operation, the fire teams were subjected to attacks with fireworks. A teenager present at the scene sustained injuries from a firework and is currently receiving medical attention from the North West Ambulance Service.

MFRS emphasized that although none of the firefighters were harmed, they urged the public to show respect to emergency service personnel. The service highlighted the crucial role of fire crews in safeguarding communities and condemned any form of aggression towards them.

Furthermore, MFRS disclosed that all fire engines are equipped with CCTV cameras, and the footage from the incident will be shared with Merseyside Police to aid in their investigation.
