The mother of a teenage girl from Florida who was tragically killed recently has publicly addressed the situation after two teenage suspects were arrested. Danika Troy, a 14-year-old girl, was found deceased in a wooded area near Pace, Florida, on Tuesday. Her mother, Ashley Troy, had reported her missing, and a passerby discovered her body, which had been burned and showed signs of gunshot wounds. Authorities arrested and charged Gabriel Williams, 16, and Kimahri Blevins, 14, with first-degree premeditated murder in connection to her death on Wednesday. They are accused of luring her to the woods, shooting her, and setting her on fire.
An ongoing investigation suggests that the two teenagers planned the killing after an apparent falling out over the Thanksgiving break, during which Troy reportedly insulted Williams and blocked Blevins online. Despite the tragic circumstances, Troy’s mother, a devoted Baptist, expressed compassion towards the boys, referring to them as her daughter’s friends. She emphasized that she blames the influence of evil rather than harboring hatred towards the boys for their actions.
While expressing forgiveness, Troy also emphasized her desire for the boys to face full prosecution according to the law. A candlelight vigil is scheduled to honor Danika at her family’s church, Avalon Baptist Church in Milton, on Monday night. Ashley remembered her daughter as beautiful and devoted to Jesus, expressing hope that her sacrifice would lead others to Christ. The community at Avalon Baptist Church has offered support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
Following the discovery of Danika’s body, police launched an inquiry and interviewed witnesses who claimed that Blevins confessed to planning the murder with Williams. Blevins reportedly admitted to the crime during questioning after his mother allowed him to speak with officers and he was informed of his rights. He mentioned a disagreement with Danika over the Thanksgiving break, leading to him blocking her on social media.
After Blevins’ arrest, Williams was also questioned by the authorities. He reportedly confessed at the police station, stating that Danika had made hurtful remarks towards him, which led to his actions. Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson mentioned during a press briefing that while investigations are ongoing, the motive presented does not align with the evidence. Williams is said to have used his mother’s handgun to commit the crime. Both teenagers are currently held at the Santa Rosa Juvenile Detention Center without bail.
