Richard Hopkins, a former Red Bull executive, shared an update on Michael Schumacher’s well-being and expressed doubt about the public ever seeing the Formula 1 icon again. Schumacher, a seven-time world champion, sustained a head injury in a skiing accident in December 2013, leading to his health status being kept confidential.
Following the accident, Schumacher, now 56 years old, was placed in a medically induced coma, and details about his health have been closely guarded since then. Hopkins, who worked alongside Schumacher during his time at Red Bull and developed a close bond with the racing legend, emphasized the importance of respecting Schumacher’s privacy regarding his health condition.
In a recent interview with SPORTbible via William Hill, Hopkins mentioned that he has not received recent updates on Schumacher’s health, indicating that the family’s desire for privacy has been the reason for limited information being disclosed. He expressed his belief that the public might not have the opportunity to see Schumacher again due to the family’s wish to keep his condition confidential.
While acknowledging his distant relationship compared to individuals like Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, and Gerhard Berger, who have visited Schumacher, Hopkins stressed the significance of maintaining confidentiality out of respect for the family’s wishes. He highlighted the family’s expectation of discretion, even if he were to possess any information, underscoring the need to honor their privacy.
Hopkins reminisced about his friendship with Schumacher from the 1990s when they first met at McLaren before both moving on to significant roles in the F1 world. Despite not being part of Schumacher’s inner circle, he reiterated the importance of upholding the family’s desire for privacy surrounding Schumacher’s health status.
