Sky and Freeview have long been prominent players in the UK TV market, reaching millions of households with their content. However, a new competitor, Freely, emerged in 2024 and has quickly gained traction, attracting over a million households.
Since its inception, Freely has enhanced its features and expanded its TV guide to offer more than 50 live channels without the need for traditional aerials or dishes.
The latest development from Freely is the introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels, providing additional entertainment options to homes at no extra cost. These channels will be streamed solely through standard Wi-Fi connections.
Freely has confirmed that the Spotlight Channels will be accessible on channel 31 and channels 90 to 99, and will also be available to CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices.
V, the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform used in Hisense TVs, is the launch partner for Freely Spotlight Channels. V will bring a curated selection of its channels to the Freely TV Guide.
These new channels will be integrated alongside established UK broadcasters in the TV guide, enhancing visibility and credibility within the regulated TV landscape in the UK.
While the specific content for the Spotlight Channels has not been disclosed yet, more information is anticipated closer to the launch date.
Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, expressed the company’s commitment to providing long-term value through the Freely platform and creating opportunities for partners while ensuring easy access to free, trusted TV content for UK audiences.
Freely, operated by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat, offers a unique broadband-based content delivery system, eliminating the need for traditional antennas, satellite dishes, or complex installations.
To access Freely, households only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a reliable Wi-Fi connection. The platform provides over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live TV.
