“Gaza Ceasefire Crumbles, Israel Launches Military Strikes”

Date:

The Gaza ceasefire, eagerly anticipated, has collapsed as the Israeli Prime Minister directed significant military strikes on the Palestinian enclave. This action came after the Israeli PM accused Hamas of breaching the peace agreement, while Hamas countered with allegations of 125 ceasefire violations by Israel.

Israel reported that a coffin handed over by Hamas did not contain the expected body of a deceased hostage. This development signifies the end of the two-week ceasefire, leading to a surge in violence and extensive military actions.

According to Gaza officials, Israel has been responsible for the deaths of 94 Palestinians within the Strip since the ceasefire began on October 10. Hamas issued a statement on Tuesday, accusing Israel of attempting to create false reasons to justify aggressive actions in Gaza.

Hamas claimed that Israel is impeding efforts to locate bodies in the Strip and called on mediators to allow humanitarian tasks to proceed without political interference. Tonight, anxious Palestinians in Gaza are preparing for potential renewed attacks by Israel.

Earlier on Tuesday, there were reports of intense gunfire and explosions in Rafah, southern Gaza. Israel accused Hamas of misidentifying the remains of a recently returned captive, whose body was recovered two years ago.

Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, at least 68,527 people have been killed, and 170,395 have been wounded. The October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas resulted in 1,200 deaths in Israel, with around 200 individuals taken captive.

The October 7 attacks triggered various conflicts for Israel against groups like Lebanese Hezbollah, Yemeni Houthis, pro-Iran Iraqi militia, and Syrian factions. This also led to US-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year, targeting Tehran’s nuclear facilities.

Israel’s adversaries, backed by Iran, have been severely weakened, possibly taking years to recover their former capabilities. The Iranian regime’s support for these groups has dwindled due to prolonged conflicts with Israel, leading to significant losses for Hamas in Gaza.

Critics have accused Netanyahu of provocation aimed at undermining the ceasefire agreement. An analyst with the European Council on Foreign Relations suggested that Netanyahu has been attempting to find ways to resume hostilities in Gaza.

Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, necessitating significant diplomatic efforts to salvage the peace deal. It is reported that US President Donald Trump is closely monitoring the Israeli military actions in Gaza.
