“Girl Found Malnourished in Grim Home: Family Arrested”

Date:

After receiving an urgent call, police officers found a 14-year-old girl in a severely malnourished state, mistaken for a much younger child due to her condition. The distressing truth behind her circumstances gradually unfolded.

The teenager, who resided in a trailer with her family, was discovered in critical condition after her father, Walter Goodman, sought emergency help on August 21, reporting that his daughter was unwell, emaciated, and unconscious.

Medical professionals determined that the girl was hypothermic and suffering from acute hepatitis, pancreatitis, and multiple organ failures, along with bruises and bed sores. She weighed a mere 38 pounds, well below the expected weight range for a girl her age, according to Children’s Wisconsin guidelines.

Goodman, aged 47, his wife Melissa Goodman, 50, their daughter, Savanna LeFever, 29, and LeFever’s partner, Kayla Stemler, 27, have been arrested on charges of chronic child neglect following a prolonged period of severe mistreatment.

The victim endured years of neglect encompassing malnutrition, emotional trauma, medical neglect, physical abuse, and psychological torment at her Wisconsin residence. Reports suggest the abuse began when she was just nine years old and paint a grim picture of her ordeal.

Confined to a locked room where she slept on the bare floor, the girl was deprived of basic necessities like adequate food, water, and bathroom access by the adults in the household. Goodman allegedly monitored her through a webcam and restricted her movements within the room.

Claiming that his daughter had autism and attributing her lack of appetite and sleep to this condition, Goodman insisted he fed her multiple times daily. However, hospital staff noted her enthusiasm for food during her hospitalization, contradicting his claims.

Digital evidence exposed alarming threats made by Goodman via text messages, including withholding food as punishment and expressing desires to harm the victim. Stemler, Melissa Goodman, and LeFever were also implicated in discussions about physically abusing the child.

The victim disclosed that her father disapproved of her eating habits when offered regular meals at the hospital, fearing his anger. She had not attended school since the onset of the pandemic and had been secluded indoors for an extended period.

Authorities confirmed the victim’s improved condition and ongoing recovery with the support of her extended family. Despite initial concerns for her survival, a GoFundMe campaign indicates significant progress in her physical well-being, highlighting her resilience and positive outlook.

Legal proceedings are underway for the accused individuals, with Walter Goodman’s preliminary hearing rescheduled for January 5, 2026. Stemler, LeFever, and Melissa Goodman were also due to appear in court for their respective hearings.
