“Google to Allow Gmail Users to Change Email Addresses”

Date:

Gmail users might soon have the opportunity to upgrade their accounts with a much-anticipated feature. Google seems to be preparing a significant enhancement that will enable users to change their email addresses. Previously, once an @gmail.com address was created, changing it was not an option, requiring users who desired a different name to create a new account.

However, according to findings by the attentive team at 9to5Google, Google is working on allowing users to make substantial changes to their accounts. A support document outlines the process, indicating that the old address will forward emails automatically to the new one.

This update is likely to be well-received by individuals who established their accounts in the past and now wish to modify their email addresses due to personal preference or changing circumstances.

Google clarified, “The email address linked to your Google Account is crucial for accessing Google services.” The option to switch from an old gmail.com address to a new one will be available, with emails being delivered to both addresses. Importantly, data such as photos, messages, and emails sent to the old address will remain intact.

Information about the release date and availability of this new feature for users is currently unavailable. Notably, Google’s initial announcement was made through a support document in Hindi, hinting that users in India may be the first to experience it.

Stay tuned for further updates from Google if you are considering changing your current email address.
