She criticized the anonymous briefings at the beginning of the week as unseemly and embarrassing for all parties involved.
Regarding speculations of potential successors to Mr. Starmer, including herself, Wes Streeting, and Angela Rayner, Ms. Mahmood declined to comment on personal ambitions, dismissing such discussions as irrelevant.
Angela Rayner, in her first interview since resigning as Deputy Prime Minister, labeled the briefings as “arrogant” and hinted at a potential return to frontline politics, asserting that she remains active in public service.
Expressing gratitude for the support from her constituency, Ms. Rayner emphasized her dedication to championing various causes, including child poverty and fair pay agreements, as she looks forward to new challenges ahead.
