A man from Hamilton who has been evading authorities since 1991 was apprehended by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in California earlier this month. Charles Peter Billone, 64, failed to attend court after being released on bail 35 years ago. Initially arrested in 1991 on charges related to sexual assault and interference, ICE revealed that Billone was sought in Canada for child sexual assault, in addition to theft, assault, and drug offenses. Hamilton police disclosed in 2014 that Billone had managed to escape capture by assuming a new identity, eluding authorities through unconventional methods. ICE confirmed that Billone is currently in custody awaiting deportation proceedings. Hamilton police spokesperson Jackie Penman stated that the department has been collaborating closely with the Crown’s office on this case, clarifying that there are currently no plans for extradition.
