A Huntingdon train driver hailed as a hero has spoken out about his actions during a recent incident, downplaying his role in preventing further harm. Andrew Johnson, an experienced driver, made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon station after a disturbance on the London-bound Azuma train. Johnson, a former Royal Navy member, highlighted the responsibility train drivers carry and credited his colleagues for their bravery during the ordeal.
According to LNER, Johnson’s quick decision to stop at Huntingdon allowed armed officers to intervene swiftly. LNER emphasized the extensive training drivers undergo, with over 300 hours of preparation before operating on the railway. David Horne, Managing Director at LNER, commended Johnson’s expertise and readiness to handle challenging situations, acknowledging the collaborative effort of the onboard team, signaller, and station staff.
