The Hollywood dream is one step closer to reality: Wrexham have won a THIRD successive promotion to move up into the Championship courtesy of a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

The Welsh outfit’s latest triumph means Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s side are now just one division below the Premier League. The Hollywood megastars have transformed the club and the local community since their takeover in 2021 and both were on hand to celebrate their latest and greatest feat yet.

Wycombe Wanderers’ defeat away at Leyton Orient earlier in the day meant that one more win would be enough to lock down second place.

And the hosts produced a start which was more than befitting of the occasion, scoring twice in three minutes through Ollie Rathbone and Sam Smith to rock the foundations of the Racecourse early in the first half.

Smith would then take it upon himself to notch again nine minutes from time to officially green light the latest Wrexham promotion party.

McElhenney and Reynolds – who jetted in for the weekend with his wife, Blake Lively – couldn’t hide their jubilation up in the stands as Wrexham ruthlessly put Charlton to the sword to seal their trilogy of promotions in front of Hollywood royalty.

Fans flooded onto the pitch at the final whistle to celebrate victory as McElhenney and Reynolds looked on from above.

Striker Paul Mullin, who has been Wrexham’s main man for the majority of the club’s recent boom period, told Sky Sports after the game: “It’s been a real team effort. The team this year has been unbelievable and it has been some journey. Look at these fans here, they really deserve it and I’m so happy for everyone involved.

“We have to enjoy every moment, I was asked why Wrexham when I signed, this is the answer right here.”

Smith, Wrexham’s match-winner on the day, added: “It’s been an incredible few months and I signed for times like this, there’s been a real calmness in the group since we have been here.

“The stadium and atmosphere is incredible, it’s a massive club and a big project, it will be a special week now.”
