Lorenzo Musetti experienced a tense week but managed to secure a coveted spot at the ATP Finals. Despite initially missing out due to an early exit at the Paris Masters, Musetti’s fate was back in his hands at the ATP 250 event in Athens. Although he fell to Novak Djokovic in the final, Djokovic’s subsequent withdrawal allowed Musetti to clinch his place at the year-end Finals. Following a quick turnaround, Musetti is now prepared to face Taylor Fritz in Turin.
Expressing his excitement on social media, Musetti described the achievement as a dream come true. This opportunity came after his attempt to claim his third career title at the Hellenic Championship ended in a defeat. Despite the loss, he was elated when Djokovic informed him about withdrawing from the Finals after their match.
Musetti, now in Turin, supported Djokovic’s decision to delay the announcement, mentioning that it was within the rules. The unexpected turn of events led to Alexander Bublik becoming the first alternate, with Casper Ruud stepping in as the second alternate. Ruud, who was on vacation, quickly arrived in Turin and was seen watching matches. Both alternates will receive compensation even if they do not play, with potential earnings increasing if they are called upon to compete.
