A man identified by police for allegedly impersonating an admiral during a wreath-laying event on Remembrance Sunday has caused public concern. The individual, Jonathan Carley, 64, hailing from Harlech in Gwynedd, Wales, is accused of pretending to be an admiral by donning a naval uniform during the ceremony. Witnesses observed this person saluting the war memorial as wreaths were placed.
The suspect allegedly wore a naval uniform embellished with 12 medals, a deceitful act condemned by the Royal Navy as disrespectful to veterans. The accused individual was spotted wearing the Distinguished Service Order, an honor typically awarded to infantry officers, despite no active Royal Navy officer having received the DSO in over three decades.
Subsequently charged with unauthorized use of military attire, the accused will face court proceedings at Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 11 December. Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan emphasized the significant public concern caused by the incident, especially on Remembrance Sunday, and assured swift police action in response to reports.
Bevan urged the public to avoid spreading rumors online and sharing content that could jeopardize future legal proceedings.
