“Man Convicted of First-Degree Murder in Pregnant Girlfriend’s Death”

Date:

A man was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing his pregnant girlfriend after she declined to undergo an abortion. Donovan Faison, described as a monster, was convicted in the 2022 killing of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. Following just a two-hour deliberation, the jury reached a verdict. Kaylin was discovered dead in a parked car with a gunshot wound on November 11 of that year.

Authorities later determined that Kaylin, who was about three months pregnant when she died, had engaged in numerous disputes with Faison regarding her choice to proceed with the pregnancy. Seminole County prosecutors in Florida are currently pursuing the death penalty for Faison, with the sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.

An inquiry into Kaylin’s demise revealed that she had gone to Coastline Park to meet an acquaintance. At the time of her passing, Kaylin was also the mother of a 1-year-old child.

Kaylin’s aunt, Tatiana Fiengo, expressed relief, stating, “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least he’s not out hurting other people.”

Statistics from US crime reports indicate that approximately one in five homicide victims are slain by an intimate partner, with over half of female victims killed by a current or former male intimate partner. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,361 homicides in Florida in 2023, resulting in a death rate of 6.5 per 100,000 individuals.

Comparatively, in the year ending March 2023, there were 590 homicide victims in England and Wales, countries with a population nearly three times that of Florida, according to the Office for National Statistics.
