A man has been captured in a photo for the first time after being convicted of murder for fatally running over his girlfriend’s brother during their initial meeting. The tragic incident occurred outside the sister’s residence in Woolton, Liverpool, following a family event celebrating their mother’s 70th birthday. The evening, which started joyfully, turned into a disaster when the man, heavily intoxicated from consuming a mix of alcoholic beverages and energy drinks, insisted on driving despite objections from his girlfriend.
Witnesses revealed that a friendly interaction between the two men turned violent, leading to a physical altercation. Following the scuffle, the man verbally abused the victim and later made threats before intentionally driving his car at him. The victim was trapped under the vehicle and had to be rescued by family members. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to severe head injuries in the early hours of April 19.
After a trial at Liverpool Crown Court, where emotional reactions filled the courtroom, the man was found guilty of murder by a majority verdict. The judge declared a life imprisonment sentence, emphasizing the severity of the crime. The court heard that the intoxicated man, escalating in anger, had engaged in a fight with the victim outside the family home before the fatal incident occurred.
The prosecution presented evidence detailing the significant injuries sustained by the victim, highlighting the deliberate nature of the act. Despite the man’s denial of intent and claims of losing control of the vehicle, the court rejected his explanations, ruling in favor of the murder charge after extensive deliberation. Sentencing is scheduled for later this month.
