“Manhattan S4-R Challenges Sky Q with Free TV Recorder”

Date:

Sky Q has maintained its popularity in the UK as a leading TV device for over a decade, known for its recording capabilities on its internal hard drive. Despite its enduring appeal, a new competitor has emerged offering a significant advantage.

Manhattan’s TV Team has introduced the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder, resembling Sky Q in its dish-based content delivery and recording features. Users can enjoy a comprehensive interactive TV guide, live TV pause functionality, and the ability to store recordings internally.

A key highlight of the Manhattan S4-R is its absence of subscription fees post-purchase, offering over 100 free TV and radio channels. While premium content like Sky Sports is not available, this option appeals to those seeking entertainment without additional costs.

Similar to Sky Q, the S4-R enables simultaneous recording of multiple channels and debuts with a 500GB hard drive, providing storage for approximately 300 hours of content. Larger 1TB and 2TB versions are in the pipeline for users requiring more space, complementing Sky’s live TV controls for pausing and rewinding broadcasts.

Manhattan promises a user-friendly interface, search capabilities, and access to an extensive library of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5, totaling over 60,000 hours of content.

Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, highlighted the enhanced recording features of the S4-R, accommodating up to four simultaneous recordings, double the previous capacity. He positioned the S4-R as a compelling alternative to subscription TV, emphasizing flexibility, choice, and cost savings.

The Manhattan S4-R will hit the market this month, available at major retailers including Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing commences at £219.99 for the 500GB variant, rising to £249.99 for the 1TB model in May, and £279.99 for the 2TB edition arriving in June.
