Former MAGA supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced her intention to resign from her position as a member of the US House of Representatives in January. In a video lasting more than 10 minutes, Greene expressed her decision, citing her desire to avoid a contentious primary election against her by the former President Donald Trump, whom she had fiercely supported in the past.
Greene’s decision to step down came after a public fallout with Trump in recent times, where she criticized his positions on various issues such as the Epstein files, foreign policy, and healthcare. Trump, in response, labeled her a “traitor” and indicated his support for a different candidate to challenge her in the upcoming election next year. Greene specified that her resignation would be effective on January 5, 2026.
In a post on Truth Social at 6:45 am Washington DC time, Trump expressed satisfaction over Greene’s announcement, highlighting her declining poll numbers and her reluctance to face a primary challenger endorsed by him. He also mentioned her strained relationship with Congressman Tom Massie of Kentucky and asserted his appreciation for her service to the country.
Greene’s decision to resign despite her previous strong support for Trump signifies a notable shift in the conservative landscape. Her departure aligns her with other establishment Republicans who have clashed with Trump and chosen to step down. In her resignation video, set in her living room with Christmas decorations in the background, Greene emphasized her continued happiness and convictions, stating that her worth is derived from God, not from any man.
