“Massive Tomato Fight Engulfs Buñol Streets”

Date:

The annual La Tomatina food fight in Buñol attracted thousands of participants who engaged in a messy melee using overripe tomatoes weighing up to 165 tonnes. The event, which originated from a food fight in 1945, lasted for over an hour, with buildings in the town covered with protective tarps. This year, over 20,000 people, including many international tourists, were expected to join the festivities. Attendees paid 15 euros to participate and were required to squash their tomatoes before throwing them to prevent injuries. Many participants wore swimming goggles and earplugs for added protection during the event.
