“Middlesbrough Man Gets 23 Years for Child Sex Offences”

Date:

A Middlesbrough man who sexually abused children has been given an extended prison term after police discovered evidence of his crimes at his residence. Connor Wright, 31, was found with videos showing him sexually assaulting children, with his identifiable tattoo visible in the footage, as detailed in court.

During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, it was revealed that Wright attempted to normalize his abusive behavior by showing victims cartoon characters engaged in sexual acts. He also threatened a child he had raped, warning them of potential consequences if they spoke out, emphasizing that it was a secret between them.

Having previously pleaded guilty to 25 child sex offenses, including child rape, voyeurism, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity, Wright faced the charges via video link from Holme House prison. Prosecutors shared that indecent images and prohibited content were found on Wright’s electronic devices, including cartoons depicting children’s characters in inappropriate situations.

The emotional impact on the victims was described by the mother of one child, who highlighted the ongoing nightmares her child experiences due to Wright’s actions. In his defense, Wright expressed remorse to his probation officer, acknowledging the severity of his actions but struggling to fully understand his motivations.

Judge Joanne Kidd condemned Wright’s calculated use of computer-generated images to desensitize his victims to sexual abuse, labeling his manipulation as premeditated. Wright was sentenced to 23 years, comprising 18 years in prison and five years on extended license. He will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his prison term.

Additionally, a restraining order was issued to prevent Wright from contacting any victims, and he will be listed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. Detective Constable Victoria Brown commended the collaborative efforts of investigative units in bringing justice to Wright’s victims and emphasized the commitment to pursuing offenders of child sexual abuse to safeguard vulnerable individuals.

If you suspect child abuse or have concerns about a potential victim, you can report it to Cleveland Police or call emergency services if immediate danger is perceived. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be provided to Crimestoppers for assistance in addressing such crimes.
