Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot went missing after conducting a flight in the region last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating air and marine search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced on social media platform X that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The incident has been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, as stated by the JRCC in their online update. The post did not explicitly mention whether the aircraft belonged to the absent 73-year-old pilot, known as David, according to the police.
Durham police reported on social media platform X on Saturday that David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was anticipated to return by 9:30 a.m. It was noted that he typically flies in the vicinity south of the Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Previously, the Ontario Provincial Police described the plane as a small blue homemade aircraft with the tail marked with “FOFZ.” David is characterized by law enforcement as an experienced pilot, standing at five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, black grey hair, and a moustache.
