“Munich Airport’s Winter Wonderland: Ice Skating and Christmas Market Delights Await”

Date:

As the holiday season approaches, many are turning their thoughts to enjoyable festive activities leading up to Christmas. An impressive ice skating rink situated within an airport, just a short flight away from the UK, is set to captivate visitors once again.

Munich Airport is bringing back its enchanting winter wonderland for the 25th consecutive year, featuring a sprawling 600 square meter ice rink and a bustling Christmas market. The airport, known for its Christmas markets, will be adorned in festive decorations to create an authentic German holiday atmosphere.

Visitors can explore approximately 40 market stalls at the airport, adorned with twinkling lights and wreaths, offering a variety of handcrafted gift options, delectable specialties, and seasonal delights. The ambiance is enhanced with a festive pine forest, inviting huts where guests can enjoy mulled wine, and immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.

Apart from the market offerings, visitors can indulge in the expansive ice skating rink, open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, for a nominal fee of £4.40 (€5), allowing unlimited skating time—a stark contrast to UK venues that often limit skating sessions to an hour.

For an additional £4.40 (€5), visitors can rent skates for an extended period, ensuring a worthwhile experience on the ice. Beyond ice skating, guests can also partake in curling on the rink for approximately £22 (€25) per hour.

An array of activities awaits the whole family, including ice discos on Wednesdays at 6 pm, diverse Christmas craft workshops such as wreath-making, ornament crafting, bauble decorating, and ceramic painting. Kids can enjoy face painting, magic shows, bubble performances, and special appearances by Santa Claus on select dates.

In the evenings, visitors can revel in live performances by local artists and bands, offering a mix of musical genres like pop, rock, funk, swing, Latin, gospel, and modern folk. Additionally, a 50-minute Christmas light tour can be booked for a magical experience around the airport after sunset.

This year’s winter wonderland introduces the “Wish Tree” initiative, where visitors can select a wish from the festive tree, fulfill it by purchasing a gift for a child, and drop it off at the designated “Elk Hut” by December 18 to spread joy to less fortunate children.

The Munich Airport Center (MAC) winter wonderland will open on November 14 and run until December 28, welcoming visitors daily from 11 am to 9 pm (except on Christmas Eve when it closes at 4 pm). Flights from London Gatwick to Munich take less than two hours, with fares starting from just £14.49 via easyJet, offering easy access to the festive extravaganza.
