Sky has heavily invested in streaming technology with products like Sky Glass and the Sky Stream box gaining popularity in the UK. These products offer easy connectivity to Wi-Fi for viewing a variety of content without the hassle of traditional installations. While Sky remains a top choice due to its extensive channel lineup, a new player, Freely, provides a subscription-free option for live and on-demand TV viewing, especially for households without an aerial.
Previously, Freely was only available on select TV brands, excluding older models from accessing its services. However, the introduction of the PLEIO Puck device by Netgem now allows any TV to access the full range of Freely features. By simply connecting the Puck to an HDMI port and broadband, users can enjoy over 40 free channels, live TV, on-demand content, and interactive guides.
In addition to Freely, the Puck also offers access to popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, supports over 200 games, and features full voice control functionality. Priced at £99, the package includes the PLEIO Puck, a voice remote, a gamepad controller, and a three-month trial of the Netgem PLEIO subscription. The subscription, which unlocks cloud games and extra channels, is optional after the trial period for £9.99 per month.
Netgem UK’s Managing Director, Sylvain Thevenot, highlighted the PLEIO as a comprehensive entertainment solution tailored for broadband-connected households. He emphasized the platform’s simplicity and value proposition in addressing the evolving needs of consumers and operators. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore praised the PLEIO’s arrival, noting the increasing demand for affordable content viewing options amidst rising subscription costs.
The launch of the PLEIO Puck marks a significant step in providing consumers with a versatile and accessible entertainment solution, combining a wide array of content options with user-friendly features.
