NFL Supports Eagles’ Handling of Hurts’ Blood Clots

Date:

The NFL has come out in strong support of the Philadelphia Eagles’ management of quarterback Jalen Hurts’s blood clots, following by a call from the players’ union for a probe into the matter. The Eagles have not faced any disciplinary actions in relation to their handling of Hurts, as confirmed by a source knowledgeable about the situation. This source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that discussions between the league and the team were to be kept confidential.

Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL’s chief medical officer, passionately defended the Eagles’ treatment of Hurts, emphasizing the careful and patient-focused approach taken by the team’s medical staff. The league had been in constant communication with Philadelphia’s medical personnel and the Cleveland Clinic in London, England, throughout the process.

Hurts, who is currently on injured reserve and expected to miss the remainder of the season, developed a blood clot in his left calf that traveled to his lungs, resulting in deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary embolisms. The NFL Players Association expressed the need for a thorough investigation into the handling of the situation before drawing any conclusions.

NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller refuted reports of Hurts going without sleep for an extended period before playing, stating that the player had rested for around seven to eight hours. Dr. Caron Rockman, a vascular surgeon, indicated that based on available information, the Eagles acted appropriately in managing the non-standard issue.

Moving forward, Hurts will undergo treatment with blood thinners and will be restricted from football activities until cleared. The player had informed medical staff of his injury after practice, leading to his diagnosis during the London game against Jacksonville. The league emphasized that all decisions regarding players’ health prioritize medical considerations over sporting obligations.
