“Nurse on Trial for 7-Year-Old’s Hospital Negligence”

Date:

A 7-year-old boy passed away due to a failure to connect him to essential monitors while in intensive care, as revealed in court proceedings.

It has been alleged that the child, James Dwerryhouse, stopped breathing unnoticed at a prominent private children’s hospital in London, a mistake attributed to nurse Anuradha Bhupathiraju.

The nurse is facing trial for gross negligence manslaughter nearly a decade after the tragic incident in August 2016.

James, who had various health conditions including sleep apnoea, was undergoing a routine surgery at the hospital. Following a successful procedure, he was monitored at the hospital’s intensive care unit where Bhupathiraju was overseeing his care.

During Bhupathiraju’s shift, James was found without vital monitoring equipment after a junior nurse temporarily removed it. Despite the need for constant monitoring due to his medical condition, Bhupathiraju failed to resume the monitoring for over an hour, leading to a critical situation.

Upon the junior nurse’s return, it was discovered that James had stopped breathing and his heart had ceased functioning. Despite attempts to revive him, James sustained irreversible brain damage due to lack of oxygen, leading to his tragic passing at a hospice the following day.

The prosecution argued that James’ death was preventable had Bhupathiraju fulfilled her monitoring duties. Allegations were made that she falsified medical records and provided misleading information regarding the events surrounding James’ care.

Bhupathiraju denies the charges of manslaughter by gross negligence, with the trial ongoing to seek justice for James’ untimely demise.
