“Ofcom Report: Broadband Complaints Hit Record Low”

Date:

The most recent data on broadband complaints reveals a mix of positive and negative trends. On the bright side, the latest statistics from Ofcom indicate an overall improvement in the broadband industry landscape.

According to the UK regulator, complaints concerning major broadband providers in the UK have reached their lowest point on record. The numbers have significantly declined from a peak of 40 complaints per 100,000 customers in 2011 to just six per 100,000 customers in the first quarter of 2026.

Despite the decrease in complaints, there is concerning news for TalkTalk customers, as this provider is not meeting the same standards as its competitors. Ofcom’s latest figures show that TalkTalk received the highest number of customer complaints between January and March 2026, making it the most complained-about broadband provider in the UK.

Ofcom reported, “TalkTalk was the most complained-about broadband provider, with complaint levels remaining consistent compared to the previous quarter. The complaints mainly revolved around faults, service issues, provisioning, complaints handling, and billing discrepancies.”

In terms of complaints per 100,000 customers, TalkTalk led with 10 complaints, followed by Vodafone with 8 and BT with 7. On the positive side, Plusnet had the fewest complaints at just four per 100,000 customers, closely followed by Sky with five.

The rankings for broadband complaints per 100,000 customers are as follows:

– Plusnet – 4
– Sky – 5
– Virgin Media – 6
– EE – 6
– BT – 7
– Vodafone – 8
– TalkTalk – 10

Responding to the results, a spokesperson from TalkTalk mentioned ongoing efforts to enhance customer service and address complaint root causes, aiming to provide a better experience for all customers and expecting positive changes in the future.

Additionally, Ofcom’s report evaluated providers in the landline and pay-TV sectors. For landlines, Utility Warehouse, Sky, Virgin Media, and Vodafone shared the top spot with just two complaints per 100,000 customers. TalkTalk and Sky emerged as the best-performing pay-TV providers, each with only two complaints per 100,000 customers.

The rankings for pay-TV complaints per 100,000 customers are as follows:

– TalkTalk – 2
– Sky – 2
– Virgin Media – 3
– EE – 4

Cristina Luna-Esteban, Ofcom’s Director of Consumers and Retail Markets, expressed optimism about the declining broadband complaints and emphasized the importance of companies continuously improving their services to ensure a positive customer experience. She encouraged dissatisfied customers to explore alternative providers and highlighted recent initiatives to simplify switching processes and enhance consumer choice.
