A police officer who physically assaulted a pub landlord after consuming six pints of lager has been allowed to remain in the police force with only a written warning. The altercation took place outside the Soar Bridge Inn in Loughborough, where the woman, accompanied by her dog, confronted a man she alleged had previously sexually assaulted her.
Later that night, the officer caused a disturbance outside the pub. When the landlord went to investigate, the woman leaped onto his back and grabbed his neck before he managed to shake her off, as reported by Leicestershire Live.
While the Crown Prosecution Service did not pursue criminal charges against the woman, Leicestershire Police conducted a gross misconduct hearing starting on November 3rd. The panel, on November 7th, found the officer guilty of gross misconduct. Instead of dismissing her, they issued a final written warning to be on her record for the next five years.
Following the incident, the officer herself dialed 999 to report a “fight,” leading to the arrival of four police officers. The panel reviewed bodycam footage from the responding officers, concluding that the officer not only physically restrained the landlord but also breached police standards in various ways.
