Pregnant Woman in Drug Smuggling Case Returns Home

Date:

Pregnant woman Bella Culley, who was involved in drug smuggling, returned to her family home early on Wednesday and expressed her eagerness to rest in her own bed. The 19-year-old, expecting a baby next month, along with her mother Lyanne, 44, arrived at their residence in Billingham, Cleveland, after a long journey from London Luton Airport. Observers noted Bella’s exhaustion but also her relief upon reaching home, where she was warmly welcomed by family members at the airport before heading inside.

The duo landed in Britain at 7 pm on Tuesday, greeted by loved ones at the airport before being swiftly escorted by armed police to evade the media. Prior to this, Bella and Lyanne rushed to catch their flight back from Tbilisi, Georgia, checking in just 55 minutes before departure. They had luggage, including a cream suitcase that had previously been seized in Georgia with a significant amount of cannabis inside.

Before boarding their flight, Bella’s mother shared that Bella was still overwhelmed, sleep-deprived, and reuniting with her brother was their main focus upon arrival. Initially facing potential jail time for drug smuggling, Bella’s sentence was unexpectedly dropped after a plea deal revision by prosecutors, sparing her from a two-year prison term. Bella tearfully thanked the court and expressed surprise at her sudden release.

Upon leaving the courtroom, Bella emotionally spoke with her father over the phone, rejoicing in her freedom from jail. Her family, including her parents who had agreed to pay a hefty fine as part of the plea deal, were relieved by the unexpected turn of events. Prosecutors cited Bella’s age, cooperation, and behavior as factors in their decision to release her.

Her lawyer emphasized that the release would provide a more stable environment for Bella to give birth. Bella, a student nurse from Billingham, Teesside, had been missing in Thailand before being apprehended in Georgia with a significant amount of drugs in her possession. She claimed she was coerced into trafficking by criminals who used violent tactics to intimidate her and her family.

During a prior court appearance, Bella detailed the harrowing circumstances that led to her involvement in drug smuggling, stating that she was forced through torture and fear. The unexpected release brought Bella to tears of relief, signaling a new chapter for her as she prepares to become a mother.
