A woman who was pregnant survived a fall off a cliff in Thailand after being allegedly pushed by her husband due to financial troubles. Wang Nan, three months pregnant at the time, fell 110ft in Pha Taem National Park in Ubon Ratchathani province on June 9, 2019. Despite sustaining multiple fractures, including in her left thigh, arm, collarbone, and knees, she miraculously survived.
The woman underwent extensive surgery, requiring over 100 steel pins and 200 stitches. Authorities suspected foul play as Wang lost her baby in the incident. Investigations revealed that Wang owned all the couple’s assets, while her husband, Yu Xiaodong, from a financially struggling background, had accumulated significant debts. Allegedly, he pushed Wang off the cliff in a scheme to inherit her substantial fortune of 100 million baht to settle his debts.
Yu was arrested on suspicion of murder, and after a court hearing in June 2023, he was sentenced to 33 years and four months in a Thai prison. He further demanded over £3 million for a divorce, claiming compensation for alleged emotional distress and loss of youth. Wang, known online as Wang Nuannuan, disclosed these demands in a live-stream, stating the absurd justifications given by Yu and his mother.
Wang, who has since had a child through IVF, was granted a divorce in September. Expressing relief and joy on social media, she highlighted the hardships she endured throughout the ordeal.
