An inquest revealed that a property developer tragically passed away after losing control of his Ferrari, despite the efforts of security personnel for former Prime Minister David Cameron. Benjamin Gladman, a 31-year-old motorsports enthusiast, crashed the coveted Ferrari 360 near Marlingford in Norfolk on January 25. The accident occurred as he revved the engine to let his girlfriend hear the sound, leading to his fatal injuries while his girlfriend, Barbara Zart, sustained injuries but survived.
Conservative Peer Cameron, who was participating in a shooting weekend in the vicinity, was promptly at the scene along with his security team trained in first aid. Additional assistance was provided by Pc Alan Gould and fellow officers who stopped to offer aid upon discovering the crash.
During the inquiry, Yvonne Blake, Norfolk’s area coroner, shared heartfelt descriptions of Mr. Gladman by his mother, Dr. Hilary Sporton, and twin brother, Matthew Gladman, depicting him as a caring individual deeply invested in others’ well-being. The family disclosed that the twins shared a passion for motor racing and had jointly invested in a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, emphasizing their cautious and respectful approach towards driving the vehicle.
In a statement read by the coroner, Ms. Zart expressed Mr. Gladman’s fondness for the Ferrari and their planned outing to Norwich. She recounted his desire to showcase the car’s engine sound, reminiscent of a race car, suggesting that he might have slightly exceeded the speed limit on the familiar road where the tragic crash occurred.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing the engine revving loudly before the crash, with the vehicle ultimately spinning out of control and colliding with a tree. The forensic collision report confirmed the time of the incident and the severe injuries sustained by Mr. Gladman during the collision.
Despite speculations about the muddy roadside contributing to the lack of traction, the exact cause of the accident remains unclear. The coroner officially ruled Mr. Gladman’s death as a result of a road traffic collision, extending sympathies to his family for their loss in such a devastating manner.
