The popular TV show “The Traitors” has always been a must-watch for me every season, regardless of my work commitments. Since its inception, I have been a devoted fan, constantly rooting for the Traitors to emerge victorious.
I vividly recall the intense disappointment I felt when Mollie was betrayed by Harry at the eleventh hour during the second series, and the heartbreak of seeing Wilf fall short of claiming the top prize in the inaugural season. In the latest series, my hopes were pinned on Charlotte’s success, as she truly embodied the essence of a top-tier Traitor.
However, my allegiance shifted in the current season, focusing on a singular contestant rather than the collective Traitors. In a surprising turn of events, both Stephen and Rachel were declared joint winners of the competition, dividing the prize money between them.
This outcome left me profoundly disillusioned. Stephen had the opportunity to execute a flawless strategy but hesitated, ultimately opting for a shared victory. The abrupt shift from betrayal to loyalty among the Traitors led to the least satisfying result in the show’s history. There was a significant chance that Rachel might have turned on Stephen during the final elimination, a scenario I anticipated with bated breath.
Stephen held the key to a game-changing move by potentially banishing Rachel, creating a dramatic moment akin to the Harry and Mollie incident from a previous season. However, the season lacked the captivating allure of its predecessors, with the introduction of the Secret Traitor twist failing to deliver the anticipated excitement due to its premature exposure.
Comparatively, the Seer twist from the previous season offered a more engaging narrative than the Dagger twist in the current one. The lack of tension and absence of suspicion surrounding Rachel and Stephen, despite Stephen’s constant air of guilt, detracted from the intrigue of the season.
As a dedicated viewer, my concern lies in the diminishing element of surprise as we become more accustomed to the show’s patterns. To retain its impact, the upcoming fifth season must undergo substantial changes to reignite the audience’s interest. A true Traitor should embody betrayal to the core, a quality that the recent winners failed to exemplify.
