Sky Q, known for its top-notch performance, is a highly acclaimed set-top box offering features like live TV recording, access to premium channels, and popular streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix. However, Sky is shifting focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, hinting at a move away from traditional satellite-powered platforms. This transition may pave the way for new competitors in the market.
Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles Sky Q in functionality. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for extensive storage of TV shows, movies, and sports events, the Aura EZ offers a rare physical recording option in a time where such features are increasingly scarce.
Powered by Freely, the Aura EZ not only supports aerial recordings but also allows live TV viewing over broadband. Developed by the team behind Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content, offering flexibility in usage, easy installation, and regular feature updates.
In addition to 4K HDR picture quality and Dolby Digital Plus audio, the Aura EZ includes an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can manage the device remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to schedule recordings and browse content from anywhere.
Although Freely lacks premium sports and movie content like Sky, it is a subscription-free service, making it an attractive option for users. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026 with a retail price of £249.
Meanwhile, Sky has announced its new subscription bundle offering a combination of major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost of £24. Subscribers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max, along with over 130 premium channels like Sky Comedy and Sky Documentaries under the Ultimate TV plan.
Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide. The bundle includes Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (available from July), and over 130 Sky channels.
This move by Sky aims to provide value to customers by consolidating multiple streaming platforms into a single subscription package.
