“Starmer and Badenoch Clash in Fiery PMQs Session”

Date:

Keir Starmer is set to answer questions from Members of Parliament during Prime Minister’s Questions, a week ahead of Rachel Reeves presenting the crucial Budget.

The Prime Minister engaged in a heated exchange with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who raised concerns about the Government’s tax plans for the Budget. This follows Rachel Reeves’ decision to scrap the proposed income tax increase outlined in the Budget.

Badenoch criticized the government, accusing them of improvising their decisions and labeling them as the “Government of guesswork.” In response, Starmer vehemently expressed his disapproval, accusing the Tories of trying to revert to “Austerity 2.0” and emphasizing the need for a new direction.

Starmer highlighted that the Budget details would be disclosed by the Government next week and criticized the Conservatives for failing to learn from past mistakes, accusing them of wanting to repeat the same unsuccessful strategies.

The session also saw various MPs raising different issues, including a call for a windfall tax on banks to assist struggling residents, concerns about asylum system reforms, and proposals for a smartphone ban in schools. The PM addressed these issues, emphasizing the importance of safe and legal routes in the asylum system and the existing bans on phones in schools.

The lively session included moments of humor and serious discussions on topics such as gambling regulations and legislative processes in the Lords. The back-and-forth exchanges between MPs highlighted contrasting views on government policies and future plans.
