“Storm Claudia wreaks havoc in Manchester and Cheshire”

Date:

A bungalow in Manchester was struck by a tree that fell during Storm Claudia, causing significant damage. The storm also forced residents in Bollington, Cheshire, to evacuate their homes after trees fell on properties and disrupted power lines.

Transport networks in the region were severely affected by fallen trees, leading to disruptions in train and Metrolink services. Storm Claudia is expected to subside overnight, with more rain anticipated for Greater Manchester the following day but with less severe winds.

The Met Office issued Amber flood warnings for two UK regions due to the impending storm. Updates from the weather agency expanded the warning area to additional regions, including Wales, Yorkshire, Humber, East Midlands, and Lincolnshire, as Storm Claudia continued to cause chaos nationwide.

The National Weather Agency warned of persistent heavy rainfall from Storm Claudia, with expectations of 40-60 mm of rain across the region and up to 80 mm in some areas. Lapland Manchester closed due to the forecast of high-speed winds and severe weather, citing safety concerns for the public.

Three flood alerts are now active in the region, including alerts for the River Mersey near Tameside, Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham, Urmston, and the River Bollin catchment covering Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield, and Bollington. These areas face potential flooding due to rising river levels, particularly affecting low-lying land and roads near various rivers and tributaries.

Residents in Knutsford, Wilmslow, Hale, Macclesfield, and Bollington are advised to stay vigilant as they may be impacted by flooding.
