A new threat named Sturnus is causing concern for users of WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal on Android devices. This Trojan, recently discovered by MTI Security researchers and confirmed by Threat Fabric, enables hackers to remotely control devices, potentially exposing private chats and allowing unauthorized transactions.
Sturnus has the ability to view all user activities, including reading messages, stealing banking credentials, and logging user data. Unlike other malware, Sturnus can bypass encrypted messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal by capturing decrypted content directly from the device screen.
Although Sturnus is still in its early development stages and has not infected a large number of devices, users should remain vigilant. If hackers find a way to distribute it widely, millions of Android users could be at risk.
According to Threat Fabric, Sturnus is a sophisticated threat with multiple attack vectors that give hackers extensive control over infected devices, posing a serious threat to victims’ financial security and privacy. To protect against such threats, users are advised to only download apps from the official Google Play Store, avoid sideloading software, and check reviews before installing new apps.
While Sturnus is a new threat, its capabilities are concerning and highlight the importance of taking precautions to safeguard personal information and devices.
