Paul, a successful businessman, encountered severe financial difficulties following serious health problems and the breakdown of his relationship, which drastically altered his life.
Residing in Hertfordshire, Paul, a former head-hunter, underwent significant heart surgery after collapsing near a lake in 2012. His recovery was complicated by a non-healing chest wound and later a stroke that paralyzed half of his body.
With inability to work, Paul resorted to claiming Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payments following his separation from his spouse.
However, his financial situation deteriorated significantly, leading his bank to initiate repossession proceedings on his adapted home catering to his disabilities.

Reflecting on his experience, Paul shared with The Mirror: “I transitioned from a successful business owner to facing life-threatening health issues by the lake in Milton Keynes.
“After being resuscitated and undergoing major heart surgery to replace an aortic valve, my recovery was hindered by a non-healing wound, followed by a debilitating stroke.
“The stroke left me with paralysis on one side of my body, causing loss of sensation.”
Although the repossession case is ongoing, Paul decided to share his story after receiving support from the Money and Pensions Service, which is assisting him in navigating his financial challenges. He encourages others not to shy away from discussing financial matters.
