“Traffic Chaos on M62 After Single Vehicle Crash”

Date:

Traffic came to a halt on the M62 motorway earlier today following an accident. The westbound section was closed near Rochdale, according to National Highways, and the incident occurred between junction 22 for Denshaw and junction 21 for Rochdale.

National Highways confirmed that the crash involved a single vehicle.

In an update, National Highways stated: “Traffic flow has stopped on the #M62 westbound between J22 (#Denshaw) and J21 (#Rochdale) due to a single vehicle collision. Additionally, there is a spillage affecting all lanes of the carriageway.”

Traffic has since resumed on the M62.

Another football match faced delays due to the M62 congestion. South Liverpool FC announced a postponed kick-off time on social media, citing delays caused by an unrelated incident on the M62. The team informed their followers to expect a slight delay in the start time.

The M62 westbound has now reopened between J22 and J21.

National Highways provided an update, confirming: “The #M62 westbound is now OPEN between J22 (#Denshaw) & J21 (#Rochdale) after the collision and cleanup of a fuel spill. Commuters are advised to account for additional travel time in the area as delays of up to 90 minutes are still expected. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Congestion persists on the M62 westbound around J24 and J22, with normal traffic flow not anticipated until between 4:30 pm and 4:45 pm. The National Highways website reports delays of ninety minutes compared to usual travel times.

Motorists have taken to social media to provide real-time updates on the situation. Reports indicate significant standstill traffic, urging drivers to avoid the area if possible.

National Highways announced an additional motorway closure, this time impacting the M6. Three lanes on the M6 northbound were closed due to a multi-vehicle collision between junction 21 in Warrington and junction 21A at the M62 interchange. Emergency services were on-site, causing delays of approximately 20 minutes.

Football fans expressed concerns over road closures affecting their travel to games. Supporters shared updates on social media regarding the impact on match schedules.

A Manchester United Under-18s match against Leeds faced a 45-minute delay due to traffic congestion. The game was rescheduled to commence at 12:15 pm to accommodate late arrivals.

Drivers approaching the M62 westbound closure between J22 and J21 should anticipate delays of at least 60 minutes. National Highways reported a four-mile backlog leading up to the closure.

Motorists were advised to follow the Solid Square diversion route when traveling westbound. National Highways emphasized the closure between J22 and J21, with cleanup efforts underway without a specified completion time.

Traffic within the closure was gradually being released via the hard shoulder past the accident scene, according to National Highways. The crash resulted in a fuel spill across all three lanes of the carriageway, necessitating cleanup operations.
