A mother of four from Wales tragically passed away while celebrating her son’s 13th birthday on a family vacation in Spain. Emma Wood, 46, from Treherbert in the Rhondda, collapsed during a boat trip with her family last Sunday. Despite efforts to revive her, she could not be saved.
Traveling 1,200 miles from Wales to the Costa del Sol, the family had come together to commemorate her son entering his teenage years. Ms. Wood, survived by her four children, was known for her unwavering love for them, being described as a devoted mother, daughter, and friend always willing to assist others in need.
A close family friend, Amanda Jayne, conveyed the heartbreaking news on behalf of Ms. Wood’s mother, Dianne Astley, highlighting Emma’s kind and beautiful nature both inside and out. The family has requested privacy to cope with the loss, expressing love for Emma and acknowledging her premature departure.
Ms. Wood’s body was transferred to a hospital in the Costa del Sol, where an inquest into her passing is scheduled to be conducted in Pontypridd at a later time. The British Embassy in Spain is providing assistance to her family in collaboration with the Spanish authorities. A representative from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office affirmed their support for the family of the deceased British national in Spain.
