A tragic incident has resulted in the death of a young woman after medical professionals allegedly left a surgical bandage inside her abdomen following a Caesarean section for childbirth.
The woman, identified as Jyoti Pal, gave birth to her son in January at a private hospital. It is claimed that during the procedure, doctors unintentionally left a bandage inside her abdomen before closing the incision. Despite initially showing signs of recovery, Jyoti started experiencing severe abdominal pain a few days after delivery, prompting her return to the hospital for further evaluation.
Her husband, Prajjwal Pal, mentioned that despite seeking medical help, the doctors at the initial hospital could not determine the cause of her pain. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to another medical facility where the hidden bandage was discovered, leading to a severe infection. Despite receiving treatment, Jyoti succumbed to the illness.
Following this tragic event, Prajjwal Pal has lodged a complaint against the hospital in Dehradun, India, where the childbirth took place, and the medical team involved in the surgery. An investigation into the matter has been initiated by city authorities, as confirmed by officials on October 22, with the Chief Medical Officer of the district, Manoj Sharma, overseeing the probe.
According to reports, Sharma emphasized the need to examine the alleged negligence, especially regarding the presence of the bandage that caused the infection. The hospital in question, which reportedly did not respond to inquiries, has been temporarily closed pending the investigation. A committee led by Sharma is expected to present its findings after reviewing the post-mortem report.
Authorities aim to determine the circumstances that led to this unfortunate outcome and hold accountable those responsible for the lapses in medical care.
