A 13-year-old boy tragically passed away after slipping from a cliff, with his devastated father being the first to discover him.
During a hike on Saturday, Kayleb Lynn Eddings slipped near the edge of Brewer Bluff, falling approximately 200 feet while out with a friend.
Emergency responders, including park staff, search-and-rescue volunteers, fire crews, and Survival Flight, quickly arrived at the scene. Fire department members rappelled down the bluff as park rangers approached from the river below.
Kayleb Lynn Eddings was found unresponsive by his father, Toby Eddings, who was among the first to reach him. Sadly, the teenager succumbed to the fall, as confirmed by officials.
Residing near the bluff in Searcy County, Arkansas, the family of the 13-year-old lives close to the tall, broad cliff overlooking a shoreline or river.
Park officials cautioned about the rugged and steep terrain near Buffalo National River, which spans 135 miles. Visitors were reminded to maintain a safe distance from the edge while enjoying the overlook.
