“Tragic Death at Grand Canyon’s Guano Point”

Date:

A tragic incident resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man who slipped off the Grand Canyon’s edge. The unfortunate event occurred at Guano Point on the western rim of the canyon within the Hualapai Reservation, as reported by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the incident, the sheriff’s office collaborated with Hualapai Nation technicians who utilized ropes to establish a pulley system. This system was employed to retrieve the man’s body, which had fallen approximately 130 feet down the canyon. The recovery operation took place on Thursday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim was found on a scree pile 130 feet below. Specialized rope technicians were deployed to set up a system for recovering and transporting the body to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Assisting in the recovery mission were various agencies including the Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security. The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged the public to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

The man’s identity remains undisclosed, and his body has been transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for further procedures.

This incident occurred after a separate fatality in September, where a 27-year-old man named Steven Bradley from Federal Heights, Colorado, lost his life in Grand Canyon National Park. Bradley’s vehicle plunged over a rim close to the South Kaibab Trailhead, with his body discovered approximately 300 feet below the rim.
