US President Donald Trump has made good on his promise to invalidate all documents, including executive orders, contracts, and legal pardons, that were signed using an autopen during the Biden administration. Trump, aged 79, shared this decision via his personal social media platform on Wednesday, December 3.
In his announcement, the 47th US president declared that any documents signed by the unauthorized ‘AUTOPEN’ in the administration of Joseph R. Biden Jr. are now null and void. Trump emphasized that any pardons or legal documents signed in this manner are no longer valid. He concluded the message with a simple “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Recently, during a visit from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump showcased the “Biden autopen” prominently displayed at the White House. According to The Mirror US, the Trump administration replaced Biden’s portrait in the Presidential Walk of Fame near the Oval Office with an image of an autopen.
Former President Joe Biden, on the day of Trump’s inauguration, issued various preemptive pardons to protect his family members, including his son Hunter and brother James, from potential future legal issues. Biden also pardoned members of Congress, including those on the January 6th investigation committee, Anthony Fauci, and others, fearing they might face retaliation under a returning Trump administration.
Trump’s recent action to revoke autopen-signed documents aligns with his previous claims of targeting what he refers to as the “entire Biden crime family” and their associates. Trump has criticized the Biden administration and continues to dispute the 2020 election results, alleging election fraud. This move to cancel autopen files is seen as an attempt to erase his 2020 election loss from historical records.
Republican colleagues of Trump have praised his decision, with many expressing their support on social media platforms. The Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank, thanked Trump for addressing the autopen issue. GOP-led House Oversight committee chair James Comer commended Trump for declaring President Biden’s autopen actions as null and void.
Despite claims suggesting Biden’s aides acted without his knowledge in granting pardons using an autopen, Biden refuted these allegations, stating he personally signed each document. Biden dismissed the accusations as false and labeled those making such claims as “liars.”
